Traditionally practised in Japanese swordsmanship, Kesagiri is the study of angles and anatomy taught by Iaido schools and dates back to Japan’s Edo period.
Compounded from two words, the first ‘kesa’ is in relation to the robes worn by Buddhist monks. ‘Giri’ or ‘Kiri’ means to cut, referring to the intricate yet fatal strikes in sword fighting.
Maharishi interprets Kesagiri in a series of natural garment-dyed staples inspired by sportswear such as crew sweats, shorts and pants in seasonal colours subdued blue and pink panther.
Explosed flatlock seams are a subtle nod to the way a lethal, diagonal sword cut is performed in the Japanese Kesagiri tradition.
