On the journey from Vietnam to the Himalayas, the Maharishi Tailor Shop encountered the Hill Tribes of Northern Thailand, taking inspiration from their silhouettes and textiles alongside artwork motifs of tigers and Sak Yant tattoo designs.
Key prints include DPM: Bonsai Forest, depicting trees growing from heavenly clouds and a water pattern, celebrating the Maha Songkran Water Festival in recognition of the Lunar New Year.
Thai handcraft style is juxtaposed with technical cloths including a naturally water repellant Ventile® Eco Hemp woven in Switzerland, high performance Polartec® sweat and jersey, as well as NYCO®, Cordura®'s MIL-SPEC nylon/cotton woven in Japan.
Local tailor shop's ability to make in-country uniform, camouflage materials and embroidered insignia helped service the needs of almost 50,000 U.S. soldiers based in Thailand during the late '60s, visiting at the invitation of the Thai Government who the U.S. had encouraged to fear the spread of communism from Vietnam.
