Curt Fischer for Midgard, 1926 - Model 121
Condition: Good vintage condition, fitted with UK plug and tested.
Dimensions: 120cm x 15cm
German lighting manufacturer Midgard was founded in 1919 in Auma, Thuringia by industrial designer and engineer Curt Fischer (1890-1956). The company is known for producing the first articulated directional light designed by Fischer himself, which inspired a whole future generation of multifunctional task lights. This articulated Model121 lamp, featuring an enamel shade, was designed by Curt Fischer and produced by Midgard. Even before the well known designs by Christian Dell or Marianne Brandt,
Curt Fischer invented the 'steerable light' with his articulated workplace lamp, developing the idea from 1920 onwards. The metal workshop at the Weimar Bauhaus was illuminated with Midgard lights, serving as an example to Bauhaus students, and is documented to have been part of the living room furnishing of Ilse and Walter Gropius' master house at the Dessau Bauhaus. The wall mounted bracket can be attached to the wall, secured with two screws.
